Winners announced at the first plenary session of the 2022 NCPA Annual Conference

A team of student pharmacists from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine School of Pharmacy has been named the winner of the nineteenth annual Good Neighbor Pharmacy NCPA Pruitt-Schutte Student Business Plan Competition. 1 The UAMS team is also the winner of the 2021 Student Business Plan competition.

The runners-up included teams from the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy and the University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy.

“As they develop their business plans, student pharmacists gain valuable experience that can help them become successful pharmacy owners and entrepreneurs later in life,” said National Theater President and Grands Pass Pharmacy in Grants Pass, Oregon Owner Michele Belcher said in a press release.

This year’s competition — the first national competition in the field of pharmacy — included 25 schools and colleges of pharmacy from across the United States. Finalists presented their business plans in front of judges Greco De Valencia Y Sanchez, Melissa Jostand, Ira Katz, Bill LaRose, Bill Osborn and Gabe Trahan on October 1, 2022.

“The NCPA Foundation helps develop the next generation of independent community pharmacy owners, and the Good Neighbor Pharmacy NCPA Pruitt-Schutte Student Business Plan Competition is our crown jewel in these efforts,” said NCPA President Jerry Shapiro, PharmD Say. “Many past race participants have taken ownership and pointed to this experience as an important stepping stone toward that goal.”

As the winner, the UAMS chapter will receive $3,000, as well as an additional $3,000 donation to the school on behalf of the dean to promote independent community pharmacy in the School of Pharmacy. The team includes captain Tanner Cooper and team members Riley Caraway, Lindsey Cooper and Hannah Howard. The team was advised by Seth Heldenbrand of PharmD; Cindy Stowe, PharmD, is dean of the School of Pharmacy.
